Galvin Bistro de Luxe

Back in Blighty in August. Date Night and back to where it began (kind of) – Dukes & Galvins. Easily one of London’s best bistros. This was a meal of the greatest hits. Of particular note was crab lasagne. Any meal that finishes with a Tarte Tartin is never going to be bad.

Our final meal in Japan, so we go to a French restaurant. Go figure. Not really proud of myself, but in my defence it was excellent. Also I will go to any restaurant which is run by someone who’s worked at Arpege.

This is as good a modern french bistro you will find, anywhere. Superb ingredients as you expect in Japan, well thought out, great tasting food.

House made bread, tomato consommé with abalone, cod (with foam), succulent roast chicken, text book mille-fueille. Great value. Go

London again…. An August week back in Blighty for a special guest appearance. Fresh off the plane (via Vietnam…), meeting Ben at the airport, a bit of culture at Tate Britain and then to lunch with my sisters.

Broad bean tagliatelle with truffle, followed by steak & chips. No complaints. Followed by a decent pint, dry white wine and a whitey at 9. A good day.

I proposed to my wife here (5 years ago!). It’s special. It’s as good a French brasserie you will find in London. My father believes you can’t beat a Saturday lunch here of steak tartare and a bottle of Brouilly.

This was my last meal with him before returning to Sydney in January. The rabbit was beautiful. So often dry, this could not be faulted. A rice pudding kept it pleasingly old school. Till next time.
